Here's my Sunday update for the Year of Projects - again a little late but I'm hoping its still Sunday somewhere in the world !! I only have one thing to show now as I posted a couple of days ago about other things I've finished this week.
A problem I encounter time and time again is having to 'tweak' patterns written for American yarns so that they work ok with our Australian yarn. This little hat is no exception. The pattern is extremely well written and easy to follow though so its just going to be a matter of fiddling around with hooks and dropping a size or two before the flower band section.
I'm currently working on a self-pouching string shopping bag, using Milford 4ply cotton. The pattern can be found here. Where I live, the local government is putting a ban on plastic supermarket shopping bags from November 1, so this little bag should come in quite handy. I think they would be a nice addition to a Christmas gift as well. Hope to have it finished to show you next week.
Dear Dorothy, Love the hat! And I was so pleased that you gave a link for the string bag! I've been wanting to make one of these for a while. I wonder how long it will take to make? I printed it up and will give it a go.
ReplyDelete((hugs)), Teresa :-)
It's still Sunday here in Layton, Utah so it works for me. I love the hat. That IS really cute. I haven't used string bags. Maybe I'll have to give them a try.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday to you.
Love the pattern for the hat it is so pretty :))
ReplyDeleteAs for the shopping bag, well believe me they are brilliant,I use them all time and now have been asked to make one for a local .. I am going to write about it on my blog this week...:))
What a pretty hat!
ReplyDeleteI had a fabulous hot pink string bag which has disappeared somewhere :( they are so useful.
Talk about my Mothers' hat, That hat it seriously cute! Looks like almost the same stitch too. Except mine has 1 row shells and the next row is V stitch. Makes me want to find a hat pattern for myself soon.
ReplyDeleteYour hat looks wodnerful, the little row of flowers is very cute and the contrast makes them stand out really well
ReplyDeleteVery cute hat, and the string bag will be a great idea
ReplyDeleteLove the hat!
ReplyDeleteCute cute hat. Why would you need to make adjustments from American patterns to non American Yarn? Isn't 2 ply, or 4 ply, sport, fingering etc the same everywhere? I asked because most of the yarn sold here isn't US made yarn. Or at least it seems that way.
ReplyDeleteLove the hat. Wonderful job on it! What is color-changing like in crochet? Far from striping, Fair Isle, and Intarsia in knitting? Probably much easier?
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! If you like, visit my crochet blog this Saturday and add one of your projects to the link party I have going on then. I would love it to see you there!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes from Holland,
Annemarie
Your hat is lovely, the colours and little white flowers are so pretty. I like the link to the bag too, I think I may well have a go at a couple of those as small christmas gifts, thanks for the inspiration!
