Its an absolutely perfect day here but instead of being out in the 28 degree (celsius) weather, I've been inside, looking through a pile of books I haven't touched in ages and re-discovered these beauties I knew I had but couldn't remember where they were. It would probably have been about 10 years ago, my youngest daughter was doing the rounds of just about every antique shop she came across and found these very old patterns which she thought I'd like.
This is what she wants me to make (to quote her words .. "a family heirloom" !!
My poor old eyes aren't what they used to be and these days I prefer to work with yarn rather than thread but perhaps as a compromise, I could aim for a table runner. Maybe. By the way, did you notice the original price on those patterns - 2d each - that would be two pennies. My how things have changed.
I have two finished projects to show you today. I finished this little dress last night
I was pleased with the way it turned out - I did make a few changes but they were very minor ones.
Finally, as part of my Year of Projects (50 hats by the end of June 2012) here's hat number 3
hot off the hook ..
Hats 4 and 5 should be finished this week (hopefully) however I have a major, time consuming task facing me in the next few weeks so I'm not sure how much crochet and knitting will be done. With overseas visitors coming for a few days over Christmas and needing somewhere to sleep, I have to tidy up my craft room which is currently bursting at the seams with crates, plastic bags of yarn, a table covered with stuff etc. etc. .. you know what I mean?? I have to make room to fit a double bed in there somehow. Oh well, as A.A. Milne once said "One of the advantages of being disorderly is that one is constantly making exciting discoveries". Wonder what else I'll find?
Have an exciting week.
Oh, I love that quote -- AND I love the darling dress and cute hat. I think that's a super challenge. I wish patterns were still so reasonably priced. Sometimes I find something I love only to find that the price seems to scream "are you kidding?" are me.
ReplyDeleteI love your dress you have finished, its so cute, its just darling.
ReplyDeleteLove the hat its so bright and sunny, it makes me smile.
I do hope you make some very exciting discoveries and I look forward to seeing them.
AA Milne was absolutely right!
ReplyDeleteI love that little frock and the dress is adorable. Those patterns would worry me, however, beautiful as they are. Thankfully my daughter is still at the age where her requests are simple and generally easy to meet.
Good luck getting ready for your visitors, Christmas is starting to look quite close!
That dress is so sweet. I love it. Also, what pattern did you use for the hat?
ReplyDeleteAs for the heirloom - table runners are a pain too *laughs* I started one with a gusto a couple months ago... and its only about 9 inches long and I'm second-guessing my thoughts on wanting something frilly and intricate for the table *laughs*
With that said thought, that table cloth is GORGEOUS!!!!!! I would love to see what you come up with as far as a table runner.
That's a great quote - words to live by. I'm considering a table runner as well. An entire table cloth is too much to consider when juggling everything else we've got going on.
ReplyDeleteThe dress and hat are great. Love the colors on both of them.
ReplyDeleteI also have some of those crochet books that I was gifted from my friends grandmother. They cost $1.25 and were published in 1964. Priceless.
Great quote, suits me to a T I will remember and quote often....or most likely misquote!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your clearing, I could do with a bit of that in a number of the rooms in this house, not my strong point!
Your dress is beautiful, the stitches and detail are so fine. The hat is very cheery and sunny. I'll leave the table cloths to you I think, no patience here!
I adore that baby dress! Those old books are great, I have a few crocheted tablecloths that a 100 year old friend of mine made. An ecru one has some coffee stains and I don't know how to get them out. wah.
ReplyDelete((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Love that quote! I will have to remember when I am next digging out one of our rooms for guests. Your dress and hat are adorable --and those patterns? Stunning--and truly would be an heirloom.
ReplyDeleteHave a super week--
*smiles*
The dress and hat are beautiful! I love vintage patterns - perhaps you could work it in crochet for a bedspread instead :).
ReplyDeleteWhat a very apt quote, great way of looking at it.
ReplyDeleteThe dress is gorgeous. For some reason garments that I crochet seem to seriously mess up on sizing.
Love, love, love old patterns
This quote I should frame and put on my craft room door! I have been trying for months to organize my room but constantly getting sick from this crazy weather this year. Wish you all the luck with getting your room in order, nothing gives more motivation then visitors!! Your projects are just beautiful !!
