The Never Ending Hitchhiker

Some time ago (possibly six months or more) I joined in with another blogger friend to make the hitchhiker scarf which seems to be going on and on and on. I must admit this has been hibernating for awhile but now that I've joined the Year of Projects, I'm now motivated to get this finished. Managed a few more 'teeth' on the weekend so here's my progress report ....

Yarn is Bendigo Woollen Mills 8ply - 4.5mm needles. My plan is to go as far as this ball will take me, then finish off.

The weather here continues to be overcast and wet, whilst great for staying indoors and knitting, isn't so good for the landscapers doing my front yard. The road base for under the pavers went down a few days ago so at least its not too bad to walk on but not being able to park our cars is a pain in the proverbial 'you know what' !! Here's how it started off -

Progress so far -

As I write this, the dog is going berserk and I hear the workmen arriving - let's hope for some sun (well at least no more rain) and a bit of action today.

  8. It's amazing how much land has been cleared but oh the possibilities for new landscape beauty! How exciting. Great purple for your Hitchhiker.

  9. Your Hitchhiker is going to be beautiful. I love that purple. And I hope you soon have a nice front yard and drive. That looks like a huge, messy job.

  10. That is a beautiful purple and nice work so far! Your knit stitches look way more even than mine. I need more practice. Our group seems to have a lot of purple lovers including me. I hope the sun comes out for you and me too. It is so muggy here today and I would like some sunshine. Good luck with the landscaping.

  14. Love your shawl, the pattern (which I have on my favs for shawls) and that gorgeous yarn you're using! I wish I could afford landscapers as my yard could really use it! LOL! I hope yours turns out just how you envisioned it and that the sun shines on you! Have a great week!

    1. You should post a picture of your hitchhiker !! From memory, I think you're using sock yarn so there would be much more work in yours. I'm using our 8ply which is about your sport wt or DK so it grows reasonably quickly. All the rain we've been having has held up the landscaping and my front yarn is a mess. Today is the first day for about a week that they've been able to work. Rain is predicted for tomorrow and then clearing for about 4 days before more rain. Maybe I picked the wrong time of year to get this done. Of course I'll post pictures of the finished job. Xox

  18. Love the colour you've chosen to work your Hitchhiker scarf in and a couple of teeth on it daily and you'll soon be at the end of that ball. Hope the yard works get finished soon for you.

    1. Good luck with your front yard and I hope you get the weather that you wish for. The hitchhiker looks fabulous and is on my wish list of makes but perhaps not on this year's YOP list as stretching myself a bit. Purple is my favourite of colours too. XxLeah

  19. I'll take all the rain you have to spare! It's been so dry around here lately that the grass crackles under foot and hurts to walk on!

Pretty purple for your Hitchhiker. I've never tried that yarn. Is it soft?

  20. Yes, the wool is lovely and soft and because it's in garter stitch, feels very squishy. Will be interesting to see if I like how it drapes around the neck.

  21. I love the color of the wool. Wishing you the very best to complete your project soon.

  23. A lovely shawl in a lovely colour. Reminds me of a dragons wing, lol. Hope your outside work gets finished soon so that you can relax and enjoy it.
